Fumiko Kai studied at the Toho Gakuen School of Music. She won the 1st Prizes at the 3rd Toshiya Eto Violin Competition, and at the 5th Tokyo Contemporary Music Competition “Kyogaku” with the pianist Kaori Osuga. She has received Asahi Contemporary Music Prize, Aoyama Baroque Saal Prize, and Kranichsteiner Musikpreis in 2006. She has appeared in a number of music festivals in and outside Japan, and given several world premiere performances and recordings. She has released 2 CDs.
